What is Eco-Build?

Eco-Build is a directory of local suppliers, builders and designers contributing to sustainable development on Salt Spring Island. Not all businesses on Eco-Build are 100 percent green but they can provide you with products, services and advice to help you decide how best to reduce your environmental impact while building, renovating, landscaping or simply enjoying your home, office and land.

Why do we need Eco-Build?

Salt Spring is developing and we can all help to ensure that it is developed sustainably. Thankfully along with property development demand for sustainable building design, products and services is also increasing and many of our local designers, builders and suppliers are responding.

Eco-Build aims to encourage these initiatives by helping new and existing residents find local designers, builders and suppliers who can help them to make sustainable choices.
Who is I-SEA?

The Institute for Sustainability Education and Action (I-SEA), is a local non-profit organization dedicated to being a positive force for communities, organizations, and individuals that are striving to practice sustainability. We have been supporting community based sustainability initiatives on Salt Spring Island since the start of 2003. For more information on I-SEA go to www.i-sea.org.

Services and Products:
Quad-Lock® is a revolutionary floor, roof and tilt-up wall system consisting of Panels, Ties, Metal Track, and Metal Brackets. They are designed for commercial, industrial and residential construction providing the strength of a reinforced concrete deck with a minimum of material sand labor.
Health: None of the materials used are toxic, support combustion or the growth of mould, nor do they
off gas as much as wood. The panels are made with high density, fire retardant expanded polystyrene
(EPS) and contain no formaldehyde, HFCs, CFCs. Job-site waste: Quad-Lock construction waste is less than 2% of all which can be reused within the project, or recycled.
LEED Ratings: Using Quad-Lock can contribute up to 28 points on the LEED-NC rating system.
Energy-Efficiency: The continuous EPS Insulation greatly reduces air infiltration, and the ‘thermal mass effect’ of concrete results in an energy savings range from 70%-40% as compared to conventional frame construction. Quad-Deck is a lightweight foam framework that can be used for insulated suspended slabs or for commercial tilt-up applications to create panelized, reinforced concrete walls. It will stay in place to deliver an integrated, insulated wall system, with unlimited interior and exterior finish.
